Era Wins Family Business Award

At the Family Business Australia awards ceremony in Adelaide on 20 May, Era Publications was announced the winner of the 2009 Family Business of the Year Awards, South Australia First Generation Award Winner.

Rodney and Sandra Martin established Era in 1971 and over 38 years they have taken their children’s publications to over 30 countries and in 19 languages other than English.

Their current challenge in the industry is the emergence of digital publishing – and once again they have shown leadership by launching two collections of interactive books online in 2008 for schools, libraries and homes via a new website www.in2era.com.au.

Another challenge important in family business is the succession to the next generation. Daughter, Tania Martin, works full-time in Era as National Sales & Marketing Manager and their whole team is being developed as a group of leaders ready to take over the operation of the business.

Keys to their survival and growth in a very competitive market have been their willingness to innovate and their export mindset that benchmarked their books to world-class standards resulting in numerous awards.

Era’s passion for literature and literacy in schools around the world has not waned over the years – and the digital world presents a wealth of fascinating opportunities for future generations.
