Our school students were struggling in literacy. They were not transferring their knowledge of writing, spelling and grammar consistently in their work until we introduced the Step Beyond literacy program.

At first, we trialled Step Beyond in our stage 2 classes only. The other teachers saw the rapid improvement the students were making. The students could see how all the literacy components worked together.  So we extended the program through the primary grades.

Through constant assessment of what the students could understand and demonstrate and through our own teaching practices, the school has seen a marked improvement in literacy. This was reflected in our Basic Skills Test results for 2007.

The Step Beyond program is a great way for kids to explore text types and a valuable resource for teachers to ensure that they are covering all the curriculum areas.
